Last week, the Huffington Post received the first Pulitzer prize ever awarded to an online-only daily news publication. Writer David Wood received the prize for national reporting for the “Beyond the Battlefield” series, which explored the lives of wounded veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
In an interview with Arianna Huffington on OpenMarkets last month, the Huffington Post publisher talked with us about the series, and what stories like it mean for online news and information. That portion of our conversation is featured above. Huffington also shared her thoughts on digital media as a speaker at last year’s Global Financial Leadership Conference.
Though the Pulitzer-winning series deals with a subject outside our focus area of futures markets, the award marks a milestone for online and digital media. When we launched OpenMarkets a little more than a month ago, we did it in part to embrace the possibilities an online magazine presents: more storytelling formats, more content, and more conversation. The Huffington Post has been a model for online publications of all kinds for several years, and we congratulate them on their award.
