With two goals in 17 seconds late in Game 6, the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins for their fifth Stanley Cup in team history and second in four years. As a proud sponsor of the Blackhawks, CME Group would like to congratulate the coaches, players and organization.
What is even more remarkable than the team’s success is where it has come from. This year marks yet another winning season for a team and organization that have completely turned around the Blackhawks franchise, successfully bringing hockey fever back to Chicago. The team, who are one of the Original Six, saw dropping attendance records and losing seasons through the late 90’s and into the early 2000’s.
Only six years ago during the 2006-2007 regular season, the Blackhawks ranked second to last in the NHL by attendance, posting an average of 12,727 attendees at the United Center. That’s only 62 percent of capacity. Two years later, the Hawks jumped to the number one spot in the same category, with the home ticket sales averaging around 22,247, and a league high home average capacity of 111 percent per game. They’ve kept this pattern going for the past five years, topping the league in attendance each season, while adding a couple conference championships and now two Stanley Cups to the résumé.
We’re honored to be able to give our support to one of the NHL’s most talented organizations, and look forward to standing behind Chicago’s hockey team next year in their quest for yet another title.
